Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: What is the difference between a virtual laboratory and a remote laboratory?

A: The term virtual laboratory has generally been used to refer to laboratory simulations that have a relatively sophisticated graphical component. The "remote laboratories" in this project are actual experiments that are carried out in real time.

Q: I can see remote laboratories being valuable to distance education students, but how are remote laboratories useful to on-campus students?

A:It gives the on-campus student more flexibility and time in using a particular instrument or experiment. In other words it allows students to share and effectively have more access than they would if they were only allowed access during their lab period.
